Fiber-optic patch cables come in two basic varieties, single-mode and multimode. The easiest way to tell which of these two kinds of fiber patch cables you're looking for is to glance at the color. Most (but not all) single-mode cables will have a yellow casing, while most multimode cables will have an orange case. Other specialty cables will have coverings in different colors, so be sure to double check before picking up a cable based on the color of the casing alone.
